Preschool Curriculum

Language Arts

The language arts curriculum is a combination of whole language and phonics.  Students listen to stories, practice handwriting, and participate in hands-on activities in which fine motor skills are developed.

Preschool studentsMathematics

The math curriculum utilizes hands-on activities and manipulatives to develop skills and concepts in number sense and problem solving.  Visual discrimination and matching concepts are also addressed.  By the end of the year, students are able to count and recognize numbers one through 20.  They are also able to sort and distinguish shapes and patterns.

Science

The science curriculum includes the study of the five senses, daily weather, seasons of the year, life cycle of the butterfly, and chicken embryology.

Social Studies

The social studies curriculum centers on the development of personal relationships in the family and school. Concepts such as respect and sharing are stressed.  Age-appropriate use of rules and consequences for one's actions is also stressed.  Stories, videos, games, and hands-on activities are utilized.

Religion

The religion curriculum focuses on God's love for all of his creation.  It also focuses on the two major commandments given to us by Jesus Christ, to love God with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself. Prayer is incorporated into daily activities.

Additional items

Computer studies, art, music, and physical education are also incorporated into the preschool program. Evaluation of student progress at the preschool level is made through activities, projects, portfolios and teacher observations.
